Terms of service — what you're agreeing to.

We've written these terms in plain English. No boilerplate walls — just a clear explanation of what we do, what we don't do, and what we need from you to work together properly.

1. What SortMyPCN does

SortMyPCN is a document preparation and case-management service for UK penalty charge notices (PCNs) — covering parking, bus lane, ULEZ, congestion charge and Dart Charge notices.

Specifically, we:

We're not a law firm and this is not legal advice. We give you a best-effort assessment based on the information available, but we cannot guarantee any outcome. If you need legal advice — for example on a complex case or a tribunal hearing — please contact Citizens Advice.

2. Pricing — you only pay if we win

Using SortMyPCN to assess and draft your appeal is free. We charge a success fee only if your PCN is cancelled or withdrawn as a result of our appeal.

The fee amount will be clearly shown to you before it's charged — you'll see the exact figure and approve it during the sign-up flow. We will never charge your card without your prior knowledge and agreement.

If the appeal is rejected, or if you cancel before we submit, you pay nothing.

3. Authorising us to act

Before we submit your appeal, we ask you to explicitly authorise us to act on your behalf for that specific case only. You'll tick a box and type your name — this is your digital signature.

What this authorisation covers:

What it doesn't cover: paying the PCN on your behalf, entering into any agreement with the council, or anything beyond what's described above.

You can revoke your authorisation at any time by contacting us at inigo@89labs.com. If we've already submitted your appeal, we can't un-send it, but we'll stop any further action immediately.

4. What we need from you

To keep the service fair and above board, you agree to:

If we reasonably believe you've breached these terms we may suspend your account and will not refund any fee already charged.

5. What happens if something goes wrong

We'll always do our best, but appeals don't always succeed and sometimes things go wrong with technology.

Our liability to you is capped at £100 or the total fees you've paid us, whichever is lower. This doesn't affect any rights you have under consumer law (including the Consumer Rights Act 2015) that can't be excluded by contract.

We're not responsible for:

6. Stopping use of SortMyPCN

You can stop at any time. Just close your account via your dashboard or email us. If we haven't submitted your appeal yet, there's nothing to pay. If we have, the success-fee terms still apply if the appeal is subsequently cancelled.

We can suspend or close your account if you breach these terms, or if we decide to stop operating the service. If we shut down, we'll give you at least 30 days notice and help you retrieve your documents.

7. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Any dispute will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales — though we'd much prefer to sort it out directly.

8. Changes to these terms

If we update these terms materially, we'll email you and give you at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continuing to use SortMyPCN after that point means you accept the updated terms. The “Last updated” date at the top always reflects the current version.

9. Questions or complaints

Email us at inigo@89labs.com. We're a small team and we read every message.
